Viktor Timofeev makes works about interconnected systems. He combines diverse media for creating wayward networks in which the internal logic of the work often overflows into the exhibition space. For Metabolic Rift, the artist has made a new version of a self-playing, autonomous videogame that fractures the paradigm of human-computer interactions through an unbalanced user interface. This disorienting experience is amplified by the imagery depicted in Timofeev’s drawings: fractal compositions show indistinguishable characters being engulfed by chaotic industrial environments. The game is connected to the brain of the exhibition, mirroring the overall process that simultaneously takes place in other artworks and the building itself.
