Diane Severin Nguyen’s images blend the visual markers that typically separate organic and inorganic materials. Her practice depicts matter in various states of transition. She creates situations in which found objects are subjected to volatility and captures the resulting instability. Blistered skin-like surfaces undergo crushing tension; abrupt flashes of energy trigger the apparition of plasmatic substances; the visceral interior collides with a synthetic otherworldliness. Nguyen’s displayed photographs in Metabolic Rift involve the imagination of smells, sounds and flavors through the disruption of our visual expectations and preconceptions.
