With installations involving industrial objects, Venezuelan artist Ana Alenso has mapped out a system of resource exploitation, especially in South America. Greed, personal benefit and international interests intersect in historically mined geographies. For Metabolic Rift, Alenso creates an installation that functions as a suspended amulet, solidifying a portrait of contemporary society and conjuring a visual premonition of a future that is dependent on fossil fuels. Matter, myth and allegory are the conceptual building blocks for this new, hanging, rotating, revolving accumulation of hair, stones and diesel fuel nozzles.
